The Atlantic Ocean covers the western border of Namibia, meeting the oldest desert in the world. The positioning of Namibia on the African map have opened trade routes to the rest of the World which has placed Namibia at a strategic position to import and export goods for the country and for the SADC region and beyond.

The transport and logistics hubs project is led by the Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) and executed through Namibia’s port authority Namport. The WBCG structured new routes to Europe, from the East Coast of Africa (Maputo, Mozambique) through SADC countries road corridors to the western coast of Africa Walvis Bay, Namibia to shorten transport hours of goods to western Europe.

Regarded as Africa’s best roads by the World Economic Forum (2018) Namibia is using the good road infrastructure to transport manufactured goods to Angola, Botswana, DRC, Malawi, Lesotho, Mozambique, Swaziland, Tanzania, RSA, Zimbabwe, Zambia to reach the 390 million inhabitants of SADC. Namibia has positioned it’s as a stakeholder to realize the goals of increased inter-continental trade facilitated by the SACU Customs Union,  SADC Free Trade Agreement and the impending African Union Tri-partite agreement.

Under the SACU agreement, all goods imported from the rest of the world into SACU union are subjected to a single Common External Tariff (CET). All goods manufactured in Namibia move freely in the SACU union without duties or quantitative restrictions.
